1.1 Area of competence : education theory

Key Competence : demonstrate the understanding theory in General, with particular application to the subject being taught.

What it means in a teaching context: It means that teaching practice is informed by theories, and teachers need to understand, critique and apply these theories in a classroom practice.  It must be a learner centered education classroom, since  it is the  prevailing approach in Namibia. 

1.2 How will you acquire  the necessary skills in your selected competence?

By willing to engage with others, explore on the light of  prevailing theories, applies lessons from reflection and continuously improve practice. I will be familiar with the key concepts relevant to the competence.  I will have to obtain skills by having insight and understanding of how the theories relate to the classroom practice. I will have concepts, aims, goals and forms of education in Namibia. 

1.3 How will you implement such standards during your studies to achieve a professional growth over the years?

I will contrast and explain contractivist, bahaviourist and cognitivist views of knowledge. I will identify between theories of development, views epistemology and theories of learning.  I will also contrast deductive and inductive teaching approaches. I will plan and design activities. In addition, I will describe and compare a variety of assessment methods. I will use appropriate, fair and manageable methods that are integrated  into the learning process.

1.4 Personal weakness or challenges you might phase that will hamper you from achieving all other standards during your studies 

I might have a lack of ability  on what I am aiming for sometimes. I might develop helpless behavior patterns due to laziness, which will lead to avoidance of challenges and low level of persistence. Leaving things unfinished and taking too many tasks at a time might contribute  to stress  and quit.

2.1 Area of competence: Health and safety 

Key Competence: promote awareness and understanding of HIV/ AIDS. Provide care and protection for learners. Provide primary emergency care as first res ponder. 

What it means in a teaching context:  It addresses a requirement that teachers address cross- curricula issues in their planning, design, preparation and delivery of learning, with particular reference  to HIV/ AIDS.  It seen to promote awareness and protection among the school learners.

2.2 How will you acquire the necessary skills in your selected competence?

I will acquire skills by asking other students how they understand about health and safety. I will go to the nearby clinic and ask information about HIV/ AIDS. I will search some information about the awareness and protection of HIV/ AIDS from the internet, to see how other people world wide do it. Furthermore, I will ask my lecturers some information. I will also read from books e.g the Namibian policy document and from the HIV/ AIDS  curriculum.  Most of all, I will master all this information and understand them very well.

2.3  How will you implement such standards during your studies to achieve a professional growth over the years?

I will identify risks associated with the transmission of HIV/ AIDS. Describe the prevalence or significance of risk of HIV/ AIDS for the teaching profession. Describe measures to reduce risk of HIV/ AIDS  transmission in accordance with guidelines and practice. Get ways in which HIV/ AIDS learners or a colleague can be assisted to deal with in their condition described in terms of occupational  guidelines and practice.  Identify HIV/ AIDS education, counselling and or support services  for  the teaching profession.  Get ways of protection and how one would create a conducive environment for school learners. 

2.4 Personal weakness or challenges you might face that will hamper you from achieving all other standards during your studies 

I might not get enough time to go to clinics and get information since there is internet which I have access to. I might not get all the necessary information because I also have a lot of tasks to do. I might sleep  for sometimes because some things are boring  and I will find no interest in them. I might also fool myself that I already know some information from high school even though it's not really enough
